Default all roots no flowers

Hey, i got got two orchids in the past year and so far i'm a little worried about them...my phal lost her flowers and i cut off the stem...the whole stem and it's dead now, meanwhile the plant itself keeps growing and growing new leaves and roots...is it ever going to grow a stem?

In the other hand, my cattleya is also doing well, it's growing a new leaf stem thing fast and i'm wondering if that's the one that's going to give me a flower...my aunt would had known

Hi! Usually when a plant doesn't bloom it's simply not getting enough light. So, I would gradually move it to a brighter location.

On your Cattleya, yes, they bloom once the new growth matures. You should see it start to swell and become "fat"... depending on what kind of cattleya it is.

Good luck!

How do you move an orchid 'gradually' to a brighter location? Are you speaking distance away from the light source?

Thanks!

Has your phal 'wintered' yet? Perhaps it is done for the season and needs a good rest. A temp drop at night for several weeks is needed to produce flowers.

I don't know anything about cattleyas - but it sounds like it's going through it's growth cycle - though I could be wrong.

If your phal finished blooming not long ago, you won't see blooms for awhile. And don't forget: Roots are good!!!
Actually it's not a drop in temperatures at night which is needed, but an overall drop of a few degrees in both day and night temperatures for a few weeks. In temperate zones this cooling down period usually happens in the fall, with spikes appearing shortly after and usually blooming during the winter. As long as you keep it in a bright spot with filtered light or bright indirect light, you should have no probs getting more spikes!

I think they need some rest...i've had them in my backyard taking on whatever the world gives them, and it's been hot and humid...i'll probably bring them to my room next to my window...will that be good enough for them?
