New Phal. Bellina question...
Hello, everyone. I just got this Phal. Bellina yesterday from Norman's. I noticed some dark spots around the crown area and one of the leaves (the bottom on on the 3rd picture) has about 3 dark spots mostly on the edge of one leaf and about 4 spots on the bottom of the same leaf. I looked up pictures in my books but nothing looks exactly like this. All of the other leaves look good and the roots had some rotting ones, but overall very nice. Is this something I need to worry about? Thanks so much for any help you can provide.
Carol

Is the black area soft or crispy? It looks to me like something I wouldn't worry about. Might want to clean the mineral deposits off the leaves though, makes for better photosynthesis.

Hi, seamonkey. They are crispy. I hope that means that these spots are old and finished. Do you happen to have any idea what may have caused this? Thanks for the advice. I will wash the leaf.

It looks to me like the beginnings of crown rot, but they caught it in time. As long as it's crispy I wouldn't worry about it. The new leaf looks nice and healthy.

Thanks, quiltergal, I was afraid that was what it was when I took the plant out of the box, but as long as it stays crispy, I won't worry about it, then. Thanks so much to all of you for your help. As a beginner, it can be very daunting trying to grow these beautiful flowers. But with all of you, I was able to get the courage. When my first Phal. bellina flower blooms, I'll post it. I can't wait!!

Did it come in S/H culture, or did you move it into it?

I moved it into S/H, Ray. It has a starting spike, so I thought it could handle it. The other orchids I got were already in flower, so I decided to wait even though one looks like it could do with a good repotting and root trimming. Eventually, I want to get all of my plants into S/H. I really like the concept of it.
