Hi!
Welcome to California!
Your reed-stem epidendrums, miltoniopsis, and your masdevallias will love it outdoors year-round in Santa Cruz. Just about everything else will be happy for the summer.
Dendrobium is a large genus, so depending upon the species in their background, they may require cool, intermediate, or hot. I grow Dendrobium speciosum and also kingianum outdoors here.
Some Cattleyas also like cooler conditions and will require it to bloom. Same goes for Laelias. Oh, by the way, you really ought to look into picking up a couple of Laelia anceps if you're gonna live in Santa Cruz. They will love it outdoors there!
Best Regards,
Nik
