can I grow this outdoors? (Blc.Beauty'Hong') Catt.
I live in zone 10 Southern CA. coastal area. Nite temps. on the low ave. 40F. or higher. Mild climate. I am new to hobby but have green thumb with most plants. Full def. of this orchid is Catt. Hybrid Blc. Haw Yuan Beauty'Hong' AM/AOS 8/13/04. It was in bloom at orchid grower when I bought it two month ago, and has been indoors.
While such a plant can tolerate low temperatures like that, you might run into issues, especially if the root system is wet when it gets that low.
My guess (from southeastern PA) is that it could be grown outdoors, but would do better if brought inside when the temps were going to dip much below 50°.
If you are going to move it outside, be sure to transition it into the brighter conditions to prevent burning.
Not sure about the BLC since most of them don't like being below 50 degrees, but you really ought to think about Laelia anceps in your area. They should thrive under your conditions.
