When I have to cut off a leaf, I put it in my waistband, touching my stomach, so I can commune with it.
I like to hold their pots and pretend I can feel the energy coursing through their plump green roots. Sick, huh?
I also talk to them, but mostly with telepathy.

i am LOVING THIS! suddenly i feel less weird and more like a normal orchidophile!
i now feel comfortable admitting that i will occasionally (very gently, so as not to do any damage) kiss new spikes and growths on prized plants, or plants that have suffered under my inexperienced hands.
and, even though my wife has spoken out against it, i will be bringing 'chids into the bathroom sometimes while i shower. it's about the humidity, dangit!!

Does anyone else also take some orchids on vacation with them? Whenever I travel within EU for more than a few days, i don't trust my orchid sitting friend to water the mounted ones properly, and I can't her to come mist them everyday, since she has other things to do. So I take my 5 mounted orchids (all minis luckily) everywhere with me. They took the plane twice in the last 6 months!

Before I got my humidifier, I used to put the kettle on in the kitchen and let it run until the windows in the living room were completely fogged.
boyfriend: "having a cup of tea?"
me: "er..."
boyfriend (with eye rolling): "it's for the orchids, isn't it."
me: "uh, yeah."
boyfriend: "can I have some of your water for a cup of tea?"
me: "no!"

Currently, with my new Phal, I'm like a mother hen. I worry about it CONSTANTLY - making sure it isn't wet, not too much light, not enough light, air circulating properly? Color good? Oh, no. . .what's THAT! . . . oh just some dust.
Pft. I talk to her too. . . though most of the time not audibly. . .figure she's probably got more going on vibe wise than ear wise. **chuckles**
My husband thinks I'm a lunatic - 'cause when something good happens (Is THAT a new spike coming off of there??!!) it's all I can talk about.
Yeah. . .weird. . .good description!
I'm happily weird, tho.

I talk to mine too, especially when I water them and check them out to make sure all is well I've told them I was sorry when I accidentally bumped them or knocked them over. My granddaughters know anything goes at Grammy's house---EXCEPT don't touch the orchids!!!! Then there was the time I first noticed a new growth on my paph and I started jumping up and down singing over and over again "I am an orchid mom!" This would have been OK except for the fact that my 33 year old son who has absolutely no interest in houseplants was watching I have also been known to threathen houseplants that don't bloom to my expectations with being thrown out or leaving them out for the winter Somehow this always works and they do bloom. But I have NEVER, NEVER threathened my orchids!

HAHA Judi thats funny. I have found that orchids do get motivated by the threat of foliar injury!
