Repotting Question
Question Repotting Question

Thank you for such a warm welcome to OB! You're feedback and advice has been very helpful.

In regard to my last post, having two of my phals in sphagmum is making me nervous. Would it be safe to re-pot them immediately in a better media, even though they are currently in bloom? Or should I wait until the flowering cycle has completed? Also, would it be necessary to cut any spikes when re-potting if, in fact, it is safe to re-pot now?

Thanks again, everyone! I really appreciate your help!

It is fine to re-pot when they are in bloom. If you are careful, your blooms will be fine. You don't have to cut the flower spike. I really wouldn't wait to re-pot. If you are uncomfortable for your orchid to be potted like it is, then re-pot to ease your mind and possibly save your plant. Phals are very forgiving. One thing to keep in mind is to not let water get in the crown, the area at the top of the plant where the leaves meet. I learned the hard way about crown rot. I hope this helps you.
