good potting mix for a phal miniature Female
Question good potting mix for a phal miniature

I've got this cute lilac phal miniature potted in sphag, I would like to repot her as soon as she loose her flowers because I don't find myself confortable with such a medium. But I was asking myself what kind of potting mix could be better for a miniature: the pot is so tiny, only 5 cm. I have to buy something suitable for her, because I haven't anything good for such a small size, so I ask you gurus of the board for any good recipe.
Thanx
Chiara

I would use a fine grade orchid bark, with maybe some perlite mixed in.

I don't know what you can get there, but a company called Orchid Accessories here in the UK to a small grade bark. Not sure if they ship to Europe though.

I use a mixture of fine and large grade with proportions of the mix depending on the orchid.

I don't have any minatures but if I did I would thing that this fine grade on it's own would be good for them.

I actually think sphagnum moss is a good fit for a miniature - since you are presumably using a small pot, it will dry down quite quickly. There are several benefits to using sphagnum, despite the risks of over watering.

If you're dead set against moss, I'd also suggest a fine fir bark as RosieC recommends, but I'd probably mix it with some charcoal.

Fine orchid bark, perlite or if you want/can get it hydroton/prime agra(clay pellets, fine size). Use whatever medium you like, just get the smaller grade.
