Best plants for beginners?

iam already the proud owner of a cat,Onc twinkle and Phal. but i was also wondering what other plants would be good for beginners. iam probably going to be picking up a normal Onc on friday if they guy at the farmers market has them in. but i think if there are any other types i want i would have to order them online. so, before i go ordering a high maintenance have to quit my day job orchid, what would you guys suggest?

I can second the Andy's Orchids suggestion. A lot of the "easy orchid" question comes down to what conditions you're can provide, ie cold/intermediate/warm or high light vs. shade. Can you describe your situation?

"Easy" is also a very relative term! For example, I find phals unkillable, but some people just can't keep them alive. Likewise, some find Oncidiums very easy, but I'm good at killing them!
And like Marc says, it really depends on your growing conditions. Almost all orchids can be easy if you choose the ones that like the conditions you have.

Well, i live in southern Ontario, it gets pretty humid during the summer where i live since were right off the lake. i don't have a terrarium, so they mainly just sit by my window ((iam not sure wich direction, but i know its not the hot hot sun)). ofcourse, i have a winter, temps can get around -40 on the coldest days, but all my orchids are staying inside year round. what else would you need to know?

I also have a window faceing the hot hot sun in another room but do not have any orchids there atm, since mine are pretty happy and growing by the other window

Of all chids I grow, I find Paphs to be the easiest to die. Especially the mottled leaved paphs. They are very sensitive towards fertilizers and media.

Then again, some people might have different experience than mine.

But the best plants for beginners really depends on your growing condition. I personally live in tropics and have no problem growing Dens and Phals but I killed several highland chids.

For your situation, might be best to avoid chids from tropics or hot-growing area which requires high humidity and hot temperature.

This last post clearly supports what Camille & I stated - each individual may end up with his or her own "easiest" selection.

I think paphs are pretty simple to grow, and the same is true of phals and cymbidiums, but I have a poor time with dendrobiums, while many view them as great for the beginner....

I am REALLY good at killing Phals. I've killed about 6 so far and may be on my 7th but so far it's still o.k.!

I find Oncs. easiest.
