You did a nice job on removing the roots that went bad. After this kind of surgery on a Phalaenopsis I tend not to water right after potting it, that way I hope damaged tissue will form scar tissue faster. I don't know if it's really necessary.
I noticed that as long as a plant blooms, it doesn't put out manny leaves and roots. Most of the times I cut the spike all the way down to force the plant to use all the energy it has to build new roots and leaves.

I too got my orchids for Valentine's Day but unforunately mine don't look as good. I was wondering how much Orchid supplies Home Depot had? I need to 'sphag-n-bag' because pretty much all of my orchid's roots are rotted. I also was wondering where I might be able to find K-L-N, SuperThrive?
Here's my situation: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...a-what-do.html

I was in a very similar situation a week ore two ago. I have read (and Camille of this forum agreed) that is better stay on the dry side after repotting to encourage new roots. It could happen to see leaves shrink a little for the lack of water before the roots recover, but it is a normal process and nothing alarming.
Hope this could help.

Thanks for the advice - my only concern is that 1 of them has sprouted a new leaf and 2 spikes/ possible keiki. Will keeping it dry affect it's ability to continue to grow?

I don't know, but Phals are very strong plant, and they are not so much stressed by repotting. Mine had a new leaf and was in flower when I repotted her (it was an emergency)and now the leaf is still growing and she is still flowered. The only bad effect is that the oldest leaves shrinked a little.

That makes me feel better - I was literally in tears yesterday when I found my twins nearly destroyed by my ignorance.

Hello. Good job on repotting it... one thing is of concern to me though. Just like you I nearly killed one of my phals by having it planted in a pot with no holes for a long time. In my search for leaning how to save it, I purchased Miracle grow brand orchid mix at the HD. I wish I knew then what I know now... that stuff is awful. It is almost like regular soil and it takes a long time to dry just like moss. If it is indeed miracle grow... I would buy something different and change it. If you must buy it from a big box store, than buy Lowe's Better Gro phal mix. You'll see there is a huge difference in the consistency of the mix. It should be very chunky not small chunks mixed in dirt (like the MG brand). Just a thought. BTW, the phal I nearly killed just bloomed for the first time since this week. It took two years for it to recuperate. Mine was in way worse shape than yours though. Good luck.

superbelks you should probably check the roots and sooner rather than later. If you have any that are soft and mushy or the outside comes right off then you will need to trim the roots, treat for any root with listerine, put cinnamon or tumeric on any area that you cut and repot. Hope this helps.

I have seen that same container at my local Fred Meyer store in Redmond, Oregon. I was there today and they had quite a few orchids all with spent flowers marked down to $5 and one Den. was in the same glass container which has no holes.....
