Difference between spikes and newgrowth? - Orchid Board

Are spikes only for when the plant is going to flower? or are they new leaf growth aswell? ive got 4 sets of new leaf growth on my Onc. twinkle, do all the flowers come in with new leaf growth?

generally when people say spike it means a flower spike that will develop buds

New growth is good because if your plant is happy hopefully they will grow spikes

Some types spike on very new growth - I think onc twinkle spikes when the growths are mature (have developed pseudo-bulbs)

Good growing and hopefully flowers in the future!

howlong does it usualy take for the Pseudo bulbs to form?

a few months
most likely will bloom around the same time of year it last bloomed

So probibly around aug-sept then it seems, there looking maybe 1/2 the height of the mature pseudo-bulbs already there, with no bulbs on the new ones yet
Darn, then that means i wont have blooms for a few more months D: That sucks! iam going to have to get some orchids that bloom when my others are not, atleast i have my new phal to keep me happy, its not up to three blooms and lots more on the way :3

yes thats the trick - have different types that bloom at different times of the year

really??? that's where I was born! - tho except for those first three years of my life I have lived in california I can't help you out with a supplier
