Hello Karen,

My name is Chuck Taylor. I'll be vending at the show in Edmonton. Stop by and see me at Fatoldbaldguy Orchids. I use a lot of clear pots. I can give you some ideas (CHEAP IS THE WORD) and show you some examples. You will also have to go through the mandatory sales pitch titled "You should join the Orchid Society of Alberta". Looking forward to seeing you at the show next weekend.

Chuck

Chuck,
If you've got clear pots - I'll be coming for a visit!

Just get some clear takeaway containers and drill a few holes in the bottom. Not perfect, but works fine for me

I use use coke bottles 1.25L or the 2L variety and burn holes with a large metal skewer or a power drill and cut some holes in the bottom with a knife.

With practice comes up pretty good.

I would like to add a note about the Dendrobium. Without knowing exactly what kind it is it would be impossible to explain your leaf loss. Some of them will lose their leaves seasonally, some don't. That being said, the one's that don't will eventually shed their leaves off of the older stems as those stalks die back. The suggestion about leaving the bare canes is a good one, but I would say to leave them alone until they have completely dried up. The bare canes actually feed and support the newer growths.

Hope that was a bit helpful.
