Hi Greg...welcome to Orchidboard

It seems to me that whenever this question is posed, the usual answer is to start with a phal...I'm sure our other members will be giving you loads of suggestions

We'd love to hear more about you and what you are growing...we have a forum called Introductions - Break The Ice where you can tell us a bit about yourself

Welcome to the OB and if you have any questions, let us know

Update: DUH!!! I just realized you DID leave an intro

I would also sugest a phal. |I would also give a look to Welcome to First Rays Orchids |I killed many of orchids before I started growing semi hydroponicly. Phals are a good choice they are pretty, hardy and reliabale bloomers.

I would choose a phal...and take it from one who did not...ME. Wish I would have but did some great numbers on those dendrobiums which make for a great learning tool .

With phal's you can almost guarantee with the right environment they will show you how happy happy happy they are with gorgeous blooms.

Hey Greg,
Forget the Phallys
Take a walk on the wild side!
Dare to be different!
Try LUDISIA DISCOLOR!
Yes that is a 5 Bananas up!! Beats 2 thumbs up anytime!
And what is coolest is that this orchid can be grown in just about anything except your shirt pocket!!! unless you let the lint build up that is!
You can find them at many home improvement centers and they are generally quite inexpensive compared to phallys
Remember LUDISIA DISCOLOR!

if you're growing in the home, a number of hybrid slipper orchids are quite easy to grow, as are oncidium alliance hybrids. Phals are pretty easy to not kill, as others have suggested.

Depending on how much light you have, you may be able to do cattleyas as well, and for the most part they're pretty easy.

I think it kinda boils down to what conditions you have. As long as you pick a plant that's suited to the conditions you can provide, you'll think it's easy. Now that's not entirely true, because some plants are more tolerant of adversity than others, but it's a good start.

Anyway, good luck, and let us know what you find.

I would go with the general consensus, and try a Phalaenopsis. Cheapo one at home depot to get you started. I would also try a Cattleya, these are beautiful and easy to grow in my opinion.
