Exclamation Getting impatient....

I'm hooked, hoplessly hooked on orchids in a span of a week..... I NEED more!

I want somthing that grows fast, and blooms like crazy, but at the same time, isn't too fragile and is hard to kill....
Does anyone know of any orchids like that, that would grow happily in 7b range???

My addiction thanks you

getting hooked is the easy part, waiting is much more difficult

im sorry that i cant offer much advice as to what will grow and bloom fast in 7b. but i think some patience will always be required with plants :d unless your growing bamboo perhaps...

one way to get over the impatience is to have more.. then youll always find something blooming or growing

I'm not familiar with 7b night temps (used this link as a reference), but if you can provide night temps between 41 and 50 F during fall, I would suggest Den. nobile (yamamoto type). They grow like weed and are hard to kill (for me).

I bought a young plant with 3 canes that grows 4 new canes this spring and they grow fast!

Dendrobium kingianum is very hard to kill too :-) and needs the same night temperatures during fall to bloom. Besides the flowers from kingianum smell like honey!

You also might considder plant from the oncidium alliance if you like them. They like intermediate temperatures.

Phal equestris is nice. They are almost always blooming, and make huge amounts of keikis. They do well in intermediate temps.
Psychopsis are almost always in bloom, or so I've read around here! But not sure on the conditions it needs.

Actually I grow mine in the house. I think I live in a 7A zone but have not tried any outdoors except in the summer. Then the trick is not to fry them. Carol

IF you can bring them inside when the temps dip down below about 40 degrees, the Zygopet's will fit your requirements. They tolerate heat, but like cooler temps (down to 40 ish.....), tolerate different light conditions (like good light) and grow like weeds. They like to be kept moist but NOT wet.
They bloom easily and have a great aroma- an extra added bonus!!
