Default New Orchids, I'm into double digits now!

So in taking my mother to Fantasy Orchids for Mother's Day I HAD to leave there with a few new plants myself.

So I ventured into the Oncidium world with an Onc. carnival costume.

And I bought another Dendrobium also. This one looks totally different from my Norma Jackson x

Dendrobium aggregatum (species)

No flowers because its still a wee little one. Anyone with any info on this plant should speak up and tell me how not to kill it.

And finally I bought something almost the same as what I already own. I bought another Brassavola. This time its Little Stars.

Again, small plant, but the price was right and the plant looked healthy. I imagine the culture of this plantwill be just like my Brassavola cordata, which BTW is doing wonderfully with new leaves and new roots popping up and out all over the place.

I now have 10 orchids, 7 of which came from Fantasy Orchids originally.

Good catch! I wish I had access to a store with such nice orchids! I live in Northern Alberta and pretty much all the plants available to buy need to be nursed back to health after I buy them (with the exception of ones from the annual orchid show).

Nice choices Chas. The Onc. is 50% Tolumnia, so I would grow it the same way. Tolus are also known as equitant oncidiums. They like extremely high light and hate wet feet. I'm growing mine in chunky horticultural charcoal in a net basket. It gets watered every morning and dries out quickly which is what Tolus like.

The Den. is very pretty when it blooms.....it's just getting it to bloom. It's nickname is Den. aggravatum. It will need a dryish winter rest in order to bloom. My avatar is Den. jenkinsii which is basically a miniature version of aggregatum. I've had it a little over 2 years and it finally bloomed this spring. This one will require LOTS of patience.

You already know what to do with the Brassavola!

As I recently went from double digits to triple in my own collection, I say welcome to the club! Thank goodness for mini's, or I'd need a bigger apartment.

I love the Onc!! Nice choice, it's so pretty. Double digit orchids is only the beginning of the addiction. A year ago I thought that 20 orchids was more than enough to handle and that I would limit my purchases. I now have over 40.... And I'm getting more!

I agree.... It's safe to say you're hooked with the orchid obsession. I hit the double digits recently, too. I have thirteen... One terrestrial and the rest are various epiphytes! Thanks for sharing and best of luck with your newest additions...
