True, no one wipes them down with a rag or a brush in nature, but the rain and wind do mostly clean the leaves.
Cleaning the leaves is more than just aesthetic. As with other plants, cleaning orchid leaves keeps dust from building up and allows more light to enter the leaves. Dust can also clog stomata. Think about not bathing yourself. Your skin would get clogged up and not be able to breath. Plants need the same thing. Go look at some plants outside (not by a road where vehicles stir up dust and it settles on the plants). Are they coated in dirt, or are they relatively clean?
