I bought "Understanding Orchids" based on the book review in this website. As others have said, it's a great book!
I was at Chapters recently and was skimming through "Moth Orchids: Guide to Phaleanopsis". It seems like a good read and covers species and hybrids (and their backgrounds too), if you're into that. I'd like to buy this one eventually.
This seems a very good tip: I will try to find this one too. I read the review of Understanding Orchids: after listening to all your advice, I'm almost persueded to buy this one. I've seen I can buy it also used but in very good condition by web. Chapeau to all of you for your advices!
I'm so happy that you liked my review. I loooove reading orchid books and try to get my hands on as many as I can. Understanding Orchids is still one of my absolute favorites. I would also recommend this one because I love it so much:
no need on books... well its better to ask your friends whos an expert in growing orchids... better bring him to your house... and let him check your area if its an orchid friendly place! right humidity, air circulation, heat, and sun of course!!!

I've also found that while reading up on various threads, online forums and books is indeed helpful... The best resource is listening to your exotics once you have them in the intended areas you want to grow them. I say trial and error are the way to go!
Another place I'd recommend for books... Check out Amazon. That's where I've purchased a TON of books at half the market prices... I usually try to find a used copy that says it's "like new" and that the user selling it has high, positive feedback ratings
Back from London yesterday night with a luggage full of orchids books! One almost read completely during the flight! Thank you for all your advices!
So, which books did you buy in the end? I usually get mine from Amazon. They are much cheaper than if you buy them in a bookstore. And, at least on Amazon France, there are no shipping costs for books.
