Wilted and transparent phal Female
Unhappy Wilted and transparent phal

One of my new phals is not looking so happy. It was doing well at first, but after a few weeks, I got bud burn on the last 2 buds (I also had bud burn on another phal - I'm wondering if they were stressed from the houseguests I had...is that possible?). After I removed the dead buds, the entire plant just seemed to get depressed. The leaves are getting softer and wiltier.

Not long after, the flowers themselves started looking strange, and started getting semi-transparent patches on them. As you can see in the photo, you can almost see through them now. Does anyone know what might be causing this? The rest of my plants seem to be doing just fine! Thank you!

It's not getting enough water, that much is for sure. As for the cause, it's either underwatering or lack of roots. I would unpot and check the condition of the roots, to eliminate that as a possibility first.

Your roots seems to look quite brown instead of a healthy, white-green... If I were you, I would pull the 'chids out of the containers and check the root structures... See how healthy or unhealthy they look... As for the crinkled, floppy-ish looking leaves... I'd agree with Camille and King, it's definitely a sign of lack of hydration...

They're still healthy enough to be saved at either rate, so best of luck!
