Thanks for your replies, everyone.....Nick, SP2340, Heather, Angurek, Susanne and Mike!! All of you are invited to join me as I do the happy dance!!
Next month will be a year since I started learning how to grow orchids and this was my first plant.....a noid that I bought blooming at Lowes.
Leave it to me to own a plant with a confused spike. I didn't notice it until this morn., and even though I wasn't sure what it was, I did wonder why it was growing backwards, as some of you mentioned. It seemed to be traveling in a perfectly good direction but decided to take a u turn for no apparent reason.....it must be a female!? Oh well, changing our mind in a heartbeat is our prerogative, they say.
SP2340, I like your idea.....I think a spiraling spike would look cool.
Heather, in answer to your question.....if I understand correctly what you are asking.....yes, the brown stub is what's left of the old spike from last year (by the way, the dark you see is cinnamon). Also, as to the type of den it is.....all I know is that it is a common Phal type den.
Thanks again for your help!
