angraecum magdalenae minus root

i bought this young plant last month. till now it haven't root yet and it is in chalcoal only pot. i am beginning to worry now can anyone help me? how to make it start growing those precious roots?

can be used with angraecum? i thought this genus need to be dry?

I've not tried it myself, but there are other members that have done this with their orchids successfully. I don't know if it was the same genus or not. I'd try to search for it, or try out the propagation forum.

I think you just moisten the sphragmum(as in squeeze most of the water out) set the plant on the top of sphragmum in ziploc bag...not sure about the rest... but here's a link it was another beginner, different plant, more links provided in there too. HELP!!

thanks melanie! i'll dig down too... i'm worried since the other divisions (of other orchids) that i bought the same time have rooted and send out new leaves or bulbs, but this one still haven't. i read that angraecum is a slow grower, but is is this slow??? i also read that its hard to kill, but i am sure don't want to kill it!

I don't have any of this type myself, but maybe should look into them if they are hard to kill. I tend to kill them with kindness sometimes.

i buy this plant because i thought it is angraecum sesquipdale when i see the flower. but when i went home, the tag says angraecum magdalenae anyway, its queen of the angraecums - so, i'll be doing everything to ensure it will live!

This is my way to do the sphrag'n'bag.

First trim the dead roots and clean the plant, soak the plant in diluted rooting hormone solution (KLN, Superthrive etc..) for a while (half hours or so), rinse the plant and pad dry (no water in crown).
Moist the sphrag (paper towel or cotton ball etc..) with water or the remain rooting hormone solution. Put the moisted sphrag in the corner of ziplock bag and the plant in another side of corner and seal the bag. Place the bag in the warm and shade area. Open the bag every few days to exchange the fresh air. If the plant has the white stuff (fungus), you need to rinse the plant, sphrag and the bag and spray the fungicide. If you are lucky the plant should grow the new roots in few weeks.

Some vanda growers mix the rooting hormone solution and talc as a paste and put it on the bottom of the plant and mist there with the diluted rooting hormone solution occassionally.

Or simple use water culture -- soak the plant's bottom in water.
