Default Yet another new addition-- this time, a very small one

Hi All--

Just wanted to share my newest chid-- it is quite small. I don't know what constitutes a mini phal but if there is one, I'd think this one would be close to it. I love the veining and color. Even the leaves are quite small. The flowers measure roughly an inch in diameter.

I forgot to mention the name-- as it reads on its id tag:

P Sogo Vivien x Dtps Taisuco Jewel

Any idea what Dtps means???

Chas-- it was an ebay score-- most of mine are! I landed this one for 5 bucks! With shipping it was 11 total. So far I've had great success with online growers. I've used three so far and each one comes carefully and very well protected/packaged. This one arrived with the flowers already open.

For anyone interested in doritis-- this is what I found...

Doritis pulcherrima, from east Asia, is sometimes called Phalaenopsis pulcherrima. It is the only species in its genus. The name comes from the Greek, “dorites; spear,” and refers to the shape of the lip. Doritaenopsis hybrids are derived from crossing Doritis with Phalaenopsis. Doritis pulcherrima is a highly variable phalaenopsis-like plant. The leathery leaves grow about eight inches long. Long lasting flowers bloom on a tall spike.

Depending on the plant, the flower colors range from a dark purple with orange or bronze spots to an almost white, rosy pink. Flowering time varies. Give Doritis intermediate to warm temperatures, filtered light, and even moisture.

hi again, i read in books that plenty of phals are actually doritaenopsis, but still, i've no clue which is which... doritis pulcherrima looks like very desirable to me and to top it off, it comes in many colors! my bed time stories is orchid stories - particularly "orchids of asia" and "four season of orchids" esp the latter since i love the pics!

Doritis pulcherrima

Hi, I also have this phal. It will continue to put out new buds/blooms on the spike for a long time.
We all have to remember that Doritis and Doritaenopsis (a cross between Doritis and Phalaenopsis) have been re-classified and are now phalaenopsis.
