Phal leaves broken off
Default Phal leaves broken off

My Phal just finished blooming and my cat jumped into it and all leaves broke off. Can I expect it to grow new leaves?

Anything's possible. I'd count it out if all the roots dry out and shrivel to nothing. I have a Vanda jennae wihout any leaves because my cat knocked the pot over and broke the leaves off, and this was after loosing most of its leaves during a cold spell here when it was growing outdoors. The Vanda looks like it's gonna sprout some new roots and possibly even a new shoot. Only time will tell.

If the crown is not destroyed and you have good roots, yes you can grow new leaves.

Default leaves broken off

i received wonderful advise from al at al's orchids one day when i was feeling particularly lousy at growing orchids. i had some problems and this was one of them. al told me if you really love orchids, stick with them. he said if there is any green left, short of root rot in the stem, keep them. patience is required but eventually they come back.

i took his advise so to heart that now, even when i have root rot, i scrape it off with my fingernail, check it every three months, cut off the infected stem and roots and scrape it again. it works.

I would agree with Carol, if there is any green on it then I would keep trying to save it.

I don't know if it can grow more leaves, as Brooke said, it the crown still exists even with no leaves then it should be able to put up new leaves from the center.
