wow, sounds like an exploded hobby if i have a large land i would also do that maybe but my terrace house is only 20' x 70'. so far my gardening only happens in the front where we park the car. i plan to upgrade to a corner house in a couple of years or so. wish me all the best! when that happens, i would absolutely need an auto watering system since malaysia is so hot!

You have a lot more intestinal fortitude than I Peter. I have had a number of people over the years ask why I didn't start selling and my answer to all was "I've gotten used to eating 3 meals a day and sleeping in out of the cold. I would prefer to give those up rather slowly"!
As to how we wind up with so many plants, I liken it to a person who sold lapidary supplies, including various rocks and minerals. He said that when you went hunting for rocks, in order to keep nature in balance, you fill one pocket full of marbles. Every time you picked up a rock and kept it, you left a marble in it's place. Thus, when you loose all your marbles, you are in the rock business. I think maybe orchids are kind of like that with me.

Don't worry mate, I get my three square meals a day (GREAT food too) I sleep inside, out of the heat and I do have a great wife and life. What more can I ask for?

I have bought another block of land a few months ago. It is about 1 hectare plus a house. I'm in the process of covering the entire land with a roof of shade-cloth and going bulk/wholesale.

You think Malaysia is hot? Thailand is no different

Isn't it just - I have about twenty orchids total which I water by hand, soaking each one for a while, using water which has been allowed to stand (so that the dreaded chlorine has gone, and it's nice and warm) and it can take me 2 hours once a week or so to do them all. Mind you they also get a very close inspection

I could never cope with any more, I'm just not organised enough.

This week!!.....i'm out on a buying spree again on Sunday
I have station wagon all ready to go. I have an Isuzu station wagon, with all the back seats taken out and racks put in their place.... I have held up to three hundred Orchids in it so far. Everything depends on the size of the plants i buy.

i envy you, a lot... i have to wait for johor international orchid show next july to get into buying spree. it has been around almost every year, but i never go even once. now the bug already bit me, i would have to wait another 13 weeks. can't wait to see what i can try on next! the funny thing is, i read that my state is big on orchids, but i never seem to find any specialist nursery, and orchid valley is in such a sad condition!
