Ludisia Seed Pod
Lightbulb Ludisia Seed Pod

Hello all!

I´m new to this forum and i need some help with a ludisia orchid that i have. One or two of its flowers have formed, what i believe is seed pods. One of the flowers, has enlarged so much n it is turning green. I should mention that some weeks ago, I tried to pollinate the plant.

Well I´m a newbie with this, but if i would like to grow those ludisia seeds, what should i do and when do i know its time to pluck the pod of the flower stem?

Hi Ludisia29 and welcome to the Orchid board

I'm afraid I don't know the Ludisia orchid and I've never tried pollinating any orchids but hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

It may be helpful to post a picture of your plant and the bits you think may be seed pods so that people can advise you.

Also you may get more answers to this question if you ask in the 'Propogation' sub-forum. From what I have seen in there, growing from seed is not an easy business, that's why there is a whole sub-forum for it.

Good Luck and welcome.

I can't help you with your questions but I would love to see what you think are seed pods.
I grow Ludisia discolor myself, love the plant and flowers!

Depending on your conditions, you can expect it to mature and split in about 1 month. You'll be able to see the seed turn tan then brown through the translucent seed capsule tissue. It's a good one to learn on. Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your replies. I will try to make a picture of it and put it up (but my hands get quite shaky when trying to make detailed pictures). But as royal orchids said, the 'seed pod' which was light green for about 1 and a half weeks now, is turning brown in the center. I noticed a brownish line in the center of it, today morning.

I have some books that i borrowed, which helps explain what seed growing can be like. However, none of them explain anything on ludisia. Most of them explain about the larger orchids like the Paphs and Phals.
