Mini Phals? Female
Question Mini Phals?

I saw the loveliest little orchids with the roots rotting away in the grocery store so I grabbed them. Apparently they are mini phals, so I'm wondering, do I treat them the same as regular sized phals (potting medium, fertilizer, basic care ect.)? They are growing in moss (and flowering beautifully), but desperately need to be repotted as I see a little root rot and the moss is really broken down. They are quite top heavy - very much like my dend. I usually use a bark mix for my phals for good drainage as I sometimes over water and have a high humidity in the room my orchids are in. So I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help is appreciated!

(will try to post pics in a short while, my cam batteries are charging )

Congrats on your new purchases! I just love mini phals, they're just so cute! I treat mine exactly the same as my regular phals. Same potting mix, fertilizer etc. If the moss is broken down and you can see root rot, I would just go ahead and repot them now. I usually have no problems repotting while in bloom. What colors did you get?

Me too, I treat them the same as standard sized Phals. I'm sure you already know but just in case...when you repot this, the pot size is determined by the roots, not the size of the plant. I repot my Phals immediately, doesn't matter if they're in spike or blooming. Cleaning these up and into fresh medium is the first thing to do.

Looking forward to seeing your pics.

I treat miniature Phals just like the larger ones.

I love those mini phals, they are sooo cute! Hope you post pics soon, I want to see them. I want some, but the trouble is, every time I see some in stores they're always potted in moss which has become a strange gunky green color, are overwatered, and always have root rot of varying degrees. So I always have to pass them up.
