You guys, I live just South of Chas and frequent Tagawas as well. As soon as you walk in, its like the Sirens beckoning you to the Orchids. I wouldn't call it a huge display but they certainly have quite a few. But then, without warning, you're confronted by Clivia in orange, red and yellow with jasmine draped over them smelling like the sweet nectar of the Gods. At this point I usually lose consciousness and eventually re-emerge in the parking lot with a lot more plants and a lot less money.
In fact I was there today and even pawed through the discount table of orchids but didn't phind and phals I love all the orchids but my conditions don't allow for much else.
I did however load up on some hydroton (going to do an experiment with an orchid that is on its way to me now) and two tomato plants. I took my dog (they love people to bring their dogs) who I'm carefully training to jar me out of my daze should I get too close to the amazing plants they have there.
Tagawas could easily be marketed as a destination nursery!
Chas-- good find...wish I could have seen it in person before you swiped it!

Ryan, did you see the one good Phal they had on that table? That was last Sunday though, maybe it's gone now.
OK I'll admit, I didn't know what hydroton was. I had to look it up. Cool stuff. I'll be interested to hear how that goes for you.

Wow, gorgeous find! I love blues. I wish I had a place like that near home!! Although my parents would probably have to buy an adult sized leash or take away my car, some way to control me and stop me from spending my last dime there and filling the house to the brim with orchids and other plants. Not to mention the greenhouse and/or sunroom that I'd talk them into building, which would immediately be filled with more plants and require additions built onto them. The only thing that is really stopping me from buying every orchid that catches my eye is limited space (well, and that darn responsibility that my parents taught me).
This thread is just too funny! Chas, don't resist the enabling. You'll be much happier, if perhaps somewhat poorer financially.

Beautiful choice!
Chas, there should be a sign on the first page, after you enter the site, "Enter at your own Risk" It can get very dangerous here if you're not forewarned.

Sandy, give it a try!! I purchased one in January--it finished blooming recently and I just repotted it and hung it outside. It has one big fat root and the beginning of a new leaf in just the 2 weeks it's been out there. I potted it in a big " ceramic pot with holes all around so it can grow onto it.
The scent is to die for. I had it in my office while blooming and well, I couldn't stop picking it up! I'm going to try other neo's as well.

With all this talk of neo's and their wonderful scent, I'm going to have to suck it up and look for one... I'm really salivating to find one now

ChasWG, that orchid is just TO much!! I've got to try one now that my Ascofinetia did so well for me, it actually blossomed and is still alive!
Thanks for the pics. I see it has started a lot of interest and ways to get just one more orchid in the house! My partner just looks at me and smiles, guess I'm very lucky.

I'm glad this thread started such a stir! Mostly I was just kidding about blaming you all. And I'm glad that other folks seem to like this plant and now want one. It truely is a neat little dude! At night I can even smell it through the new orchid enclosure I recently built. I think I'll rename it a mini greenhouse.

Thanks again for all the help and advice. OB is simply a great community!
