I've read in a book that you are supposed to withhold fertilizing while the plant is developing buds as it could also cause the blooms to drop early? Has anyone read or heard the same? I don't know how true this is, but I still try to fertilize my phals that are in spike, but weakly, and every other week as opposed to "weakly weekly".

My phal stuartiana was my very first orchid to rebloom for me (which was this around December/08), but everything happened really fast. From the moment the spike appeared to the moment the flowers dropped (no bud blast though), this probably all happened in less than 3 months. My two other phals that are about to bloom are taking about this long just to develop the buds and have not even opened yet.

I have another Phal( white one)with 23 blooms on it. It has been in bloom since Xmas. So it surprised me when this Phal(purple one) lost a bud. It has been three days since it lost a bud and the other buds show no sign of any change for the worse. So I am keeping my fingers crossed on just a freak thing. I only fertilize every other week.
