My orchids, mostly phals and dendros were exposed to the 27 degree low we had in Jan. Part of the roof on the shade house blew off. Anyway, at least 1/3 suffered serious damage.
My question is has anyone had phals come back from the roots? The roots appear to still be alive. I pulled a couple out of their pots and I found healthy roots. I am wondering if they are just dying slowly at this point and not really ever coming back.
I'm afraid I've never had anything as serious as that so I don't really know.
I'm guessing the best you can hope for is that a basel keki could form from the roots and take over where the old leaves have gone, but I'm not sure if that is possible or not.
I've seen it often in pictures, but I can't give you a percentage of plants that will survive thru basal keiki's.
Yes I really saw it, plants without leaves, but with the roots still alive, that throw out a basal keiki.
I guess it depends on the fact if parts of the stem are still alive.
