Newbie here. My family went to the Marie Selby Botanic Gardens in Sarasota, FL. I came home (Memphis,TN) with a Dendrobium Oriental Smile 'Fantasty' AD/AOS. First off, what type of Dendrobium is an AD? (I assume the AOS is for American Orchid Society?)
This cutie is in full bloom. There are 4 stalks in a teeny tiny pot with a multitude of white roots poking out. It appears to be growing a new stalk. This plant is staked~but doesn't stand up. I have to prop it against something. So, that brings on the question if I can re pot it while it is in bloom? how big should the pot be?
With that said, the kitten attacked the plant... which sent the coconut shells scattering and several leaves nibbled. The kitten is still alive.
(I haven't called the vet to see if kitty needs a detox) I could not get all the coconut shells back into the pot with the plant. Talk about frustration for both of us!
I reacted by placing this 'cutie' inside a very large clear glass receptacle which was as tall as the 4 stalks. Now the leaves are really mad as evidenced by their gold color. 'Cutie' (everything gets named by my daughter) is no longer in my kitchen by the window. I took it out of the glass holder and put it on my mantle (beware kitten) after giving it it's weekly watering. Our family room has numerous windows flanking either side of the mantle and across the room. No direct sun on the mantle. I attempted to look up yellow leaves and orchids and found numerous causes.
So, what do I do about the yellow leaves? will they fall off? The roots still look white~ they were quite dry, but white & healthy with no buggies. Not all nibbled leaves are yellow.
