Default There's An Alien In My Pot!

So
was repotting a new plant - Cischweinfia sheehanae - and saw what I at first believed was some other plant sprouting in the pot, but came to find it is part of the plant its self.

Probably a silly question but what, if anything, should I do with it? And what is it? - looks like roots but different from the rest - and looks like it's sprouting something.

post script - any tips on pronunciation of this plant's name?

Hmm. It looks like a seed of some sort sprouting. Do you have any birds around that you are feeding? As far a pronouncing the name, it is siz-'swhen'- fi-a, or someting close.

I think it's "sish-WINE-fee-a" - at least that's how Harry says it.

Now that's funny looking! I didn't think about it being a seed, I was thinking that the plant got a little confused and started a new growth downwards instead of upwards!

I'm agreeing with Camille - it looks like it's a new growth that got stuck under the potting medium. That could explain it's twisted shape and white color - no light, no chlorophyl....

Thanks everyone!

Kim - it definitely is not something 'foreign' sprouting - thats what I thought at first, but its attched to the orchid!

Camille and Ethan - yeah I guess it's a confused growth. I poked it upwards a bit - we'll see what it does.

thanks everyone for the pronunciation tips too

I agree, it just a new growth with a lack of chlorophyll.
