Random thought for a thousand, Alex... The florist shop next to where I work has Old Grand Daddy phal for sale and I WANT IT sooo bad I can't stand it.... However, I am unwilling to pay their price they're asking for it... LOL... I'll wait until they kill (because they always do their orchids terribly) and go dumpster dive and try to revive! LOL...

I'm always tossing out links to other helpful sites... Read over this one... Hope it helps!

frosted all i can suggest is try to get a Phal with a proper clonal name (like Phal. Joy Spring Canary 'Joy'), that way you know it's at least one that the grower has liked enough to name it.

Also go to growers that specialise in Phals, and buy 'stems', which are clones of special Phals and also 'select' plants which are ones the grower has picked out as good for one reason or another.

P.S. what's the red violacea you got? is it really red?
