Paph overcrowding=not blooming
Default Paph overcrowding=not blooming

Hi!
I was wondering if ya'll who are more experienced with Paphs could help! My mottled paph--unfortunately, not tag--seems a little crowded in a 6 inch pot. I was wondering if this is a reason for not blooming? I keep it close to the window so that is does get a temp differential between night and day. Any clue? Thanks!

Hi Carl, How many growths does the plant have? A 6" pot seems rather big for a mottled leaf. My paphs seem to bloom better if a bit root bound in the pot. They also like fresh media.

When was the last time you repotted? Paphs react favorably to repotting and sometimes when they seem to be doing nothing, a repot will fix that.

My paph is in a 6 inch pot with 8 growths--it is rather large! I got it about a little over a year ago, so I have never repotted it--I know, probably it needed it sooner?

Carl,

Its not likely (IMHO) that you're paph is not blooming becos' it has 8 growths, some need 4 mature growths before they even start to bloom.
Some of you're troubles might be light ... Altho' you didn't mention what sorta lighting it was under.

Paphs really do like fresh media. I like to change up my media once per year. Sometimes I have to repot sooner becos' of growth. I don't always change the pot size but they do favor new media a great deal.

Gloria,
It has bloomed twice before--I only had it since it bloomed last. The light is in a dappled sun room where I also grow my phals.

What size pot should I repot into--should I go smaller so that the roots are tight in the pot or give it some room to stretch out?

Thanks!

Carl, When repotting, I allow 30% of inside room per pot for new growth
