I bought a Neostylis in bloom. Now that it's done blooming, I'm thinking maybe it's time to repot. It's in a deep 2" plastic pot, deeper than any 2" or 4" pots I have. Roots are coming out of the bottom holes, which is why I thought repotting might be a good idea. I popped it out of the pot today, and the roots all look very healthy, but very crowded in there. Should I spread them out more in a 4" pot, or does it like being closely confined like that?

Generally orchids like to be fairly tight in their pots. But at the same time you should allow some extra rooms for some root growth. You don't want to have to repot again in a couple months. I would like to say go with the 4" but does it look like it would give it too much room? I don't have a Neostylis so I can't really say for sure what they prefer so hopefully others with more experience will chime in.

I have a Neostylis I purchased recently. It is in a 4 inch plastic basket with roots hanging down and underneath it for 4 feet! I would put it in something open because it will lots of roots.

I couldn't get the plant back into its original pot because the roots just sprang out everywhere. It's still sitting on the kitchen counter. There isn't anyplace local to buy baskets, is there something I can substitute? I thought mounting might be good, but again, there's no place I can just go to buy supplies.

Tinarae
Just a quick thought, try your local supermarket in the produce section.Sometimes such items as strawberries come in plastic baskets that might do the job.
