Default Temperatures for hybrids of Cattleya

Dear all,
I was wondering when I could put my hybrids of cattleya out of my flat, in the balcony.
Can they support temperatures of 10°C?
They spent all of the winter at 20°C more or less.....
Flavia

You asking this question in °C makes me realise that while I understand °C better than °F, when it comes to 'chids I've got used to working in °F because that's what most people on OB do.

10°C seems a bit cold for most 'chids to me but I don't know Cattleya specifically. My house has been 15°C to 19°C all winter which I belive is on the cold end for my 'chids. They tend to go dormant over the winter.

Looking at the care sheets for Cattleya though it looks like they like cooler temperatures than most of mine. They like 55-60°F overnight with a 15-20°F raise in the day. Getting out my converter that's 13-16°C at night, up to 21-29°C in the day.

I still think 10°C could be a bit cold still for them.

Hi,
Although I do Not Know the answer to Flavia's question..I have Cattleyas and mine are never under 18°C ...
which brings me to the thought that, Rosie, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN !
I am getting used to it ('ish)...I have a glass plate covering my computer desk and I have written myself a table out in F°/C° on the back of a business card & also included the temp ranges (cool/intermidiate/warm)- so I can glance at them & have the immediate answer.. as otherwise very confusing
Thank you Suzanne for putting it on the Board!

I use this site to convert.

Temperature Converter - Fahrenheit and Celsius (Centigrade)

I now tend to know required chid temps in Farenheit and I have to convert to centigrade to be able to compare it to my room temp.

But then us brits get used to that.

The UK just cannot make up it's mind whether we are metric or not. I know people's weight and height in stones and feet, but I measure food in grams. I don't know know far a yard is, I know meters, but I measure distance on the road in miles and fuel use in miles per gallon. Then when I want to measure liquid I have no idea how much a gallon is but know liters and have to convert to liters to know how much KLN to use.

Thank you Rosie and Nenella,
I will wait another month before put my catts in the balcony, just to be sure that the lowest temeprature in the night won't be less than 55°F.
I believe that a great range in temepartures between night and day can be important for catts!!!

In the early part of fall or winter MY plants have seen 40F but I try to stay above 50F and I only have electric fans to cool so the temp reaches into the 90s , I grow mostly large catts with a few catt species.
