I got that, and have been playing around with one of my other Phals to shape the spike into a s-shape. This worked out great, and that spike was really something to look at!
Lots of flowers, all the way around, with the spike itself formed like a S.
But both Phals with this weird spike-growth has been in the same position all along...
The spike started to grow facing the window.
But, in my case, the top of the spike never grew out of the steam at all. It was just a weird "bump" growing out, and after a while i noticed the spike was all crawled up in there... The buds are inside the steam, and the spike never grew out at all.
Still... You might be on to something...
The sun changes position during the winter, and that could maybe be one reason?
But... at the same time, this phal has bloomed several times, without this problem.
And none of the other chids(phals, dend, cymb. Onc. and Phap) has simulare problems with spiking. They are all placed in the same windows.
