I am new here and have a question. Can I grow mini catts on a west facing bathroom windowsill? I don't have a greenhouse or the space to make an orchid room. One of the plants that I got today (Hawaii Little Stars) has what looks like a dried out sheath that never flowered. Do they still flower from a dried sheath. Do I have a chance to make them grow and bloom? In years past I bloomed Blc Star Ruby successfully.

Hi Paula and welcome to OB.

I'm afraid I don't know about the plants you have, but we have lots of people with tons of knowledge here, so I'm sure someone will get you some advice soon.

Hi Paula

Welcome!

Yes, some orchids can flower from what looks like a dried sheet but I cannot guess what type of orchid orchid cross you have since the group it belongs to is not included in you post. Some cattleya and relatives behave differently from others. If you just wrote Star Ruby I would not know what type of orchid the other one you mentioned was either. ( I mean like the Blc. part you listed before Star Ruby, lets everyone know that the plant is a cross of 3 different groups Brassavola x Laelia xCattleya)

If your label does not have that info. you can post a photo. You can even upload photos in your own gallery on this forum.
