Smile Bargin Cattleyas from Lowe's

I could not resit the cattleyas for sale at my local Lowe's. . And at $6 each I just had to buy them. i bought 3 last year and three the year before. None have bloomed yet. They're growing well: nice sized leaves, four to six pseudobulbs on all the plants and lots of healthy roots.

Has anyone purchased catts from Lowe's? After 2 years, when can I expect the first group to flower?

I've purchased catts from Lowe's and Home Depot as bag babies. I usually have to wait 2-3 years for blooms. I also need to mention, the plants I buy from them, I get at a really reduced rate as they are almost "trash babies".

I'm with you on this one. I bought one too... I've had it for a year. Lots of healthy roots and 3 new big pseudobulbs... I'm waiting too. Put it in a very bright spot, and wait. That's what I'm doing.
I probably wont do that again. I prefer to buy it from a nursery... at least if it never blooms again (luckily most of mine have) at least I know I'll get to enjoy flowers....

Buying the "bag babies" is how I control my "impulse orchid buying"

Good to know that I'm not alone. They are growing so well that I can't help but think that they will bloom. But since I'm pretty new to orchids, let me ask..is there such a thing as a "never bloom" orchid?

I like to think "never bloom" is a phase . Just when I think I have one...I change a condition or two and viola--I get a bloom .

Thaat's encouraging to hear. Maybe I'll up the fertilizer. They're making new pseudobulbs and roots. They look like they want to bloom!
