Orchids in Florida
Hello All,
I will be travelling to Cape Coral/Fort Myers area in Florida later this month and was wondering if any of the locals could suggest some nice Orchid Greenhouses for me to visit (and POSSIBLY buy from - yeah right) during my stay. It would be great if I could map out a few and spend a day touring. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

From what direction will you be arriving? If you are coming from the North I could recommend several in Sarasota County.
Keep in mind, though, that many of the growers require an appointment to meet you at their greenhouses as they have other jobs during the week or attend orchid shows on the weekends.

Thanks flhiker, I will do some research on the list that you have provided. Maybe someone else in the Ft. Myers area is familiar with a few of them. Nokomis, we will be driving through from the "great white north", however until we reach our destination of Cape Coral I will have my 4 and 5 year old sons with me, so orchid shopping would not be as stress free or relaxing as I want. Good point about contacting the nurserys first, thanks.

Hi Brenda, I live in south Fort Myers area (right before you cross the bridge to Sanibel-Captiva Islands). Marilyn's Exotic Orchids is right on my way to the beaches and I've purchased some very nice chids there. Sundance Orchids is another place I love to go.......it's huge!!! They are both open to the public.

They sell all kinds of orchids. I have purchased Phals, Paphs, Dendros and Catts from both places also some great Psychopsis that bloom all year long.

Thank you Vanessa for your recommendations, I have been trying to get info on line on some of these greenhouses, however most don't appear to have websites. Good to know both have healthy/quality plants.

Hi all,
Just wanted to say that I've been home now from our Florida trip and had a great time. Thank you for your suggestions as far as orchid vendors. Vanessa, I did find Marilyns and controlled myself very well there, only bought 1 red cat. Beautiful plants there, think I'd like a part time job there one day!! Also found East Fork orchids in a junglish area....bought a few more there. Then attended the Orlando orchid show.....wow.....bought 11 or so there. We found a few other nurserys in the middle of nowhere who also sold orchids....so in all came home with 17 in their very own suitcase. (bare rooted of course). So been busy potting and trying to find spots for the new ones. The orchid tours beat out our time at Disney for sure!!! Thanks again for your input.
