Nun Orchids - Orchid Board

Can anyone tell me about this one? Are they easy to keep. What kind of humidity do they like? I was able to find temp and lighting requirements but nothing said anything about humidity. The HomeDepot down the street has about 2 dozen of them for $15, in a large pot with spikes that are 2-3 ft tall!

I have phaius microburst "wild thing". I grow them with my phals, catts, and dens. They seem to like more water and fertilizer though. In the summer they go outside on the porch.
I may have to make a trip to Home Depot, sounds like a great price.

Hey Jimbo, We're kind of neighbors. I'm in Lufkin/Nacogdoches area. You'll do just fine with Phaius. Humidity doesn't seem to be to much of a concearn. They're pretty easy to please taking some pretty low temps (upper 30's for a few nights) and variable light (from a dim window to full morning sun outdoors).

Go get one, or two. You'll be glad you did.

wow what lovely orchids, I sadly dont have anywhere to put such a large plant inside to protect it in cold weather but wow!!

Royal, what a small world! My maternal grandparents are from Diboll and I still have relatives that live in Lufkin. My mothers cousins husband was the postmaster there for a long time.

I got my Phaius tankervilleae at Home Depot a few years ago for $13 or $14...great purchase! It blooms every year with anywhere from 5 to 8 spikes on it! Right now, I'm waiting for blooms on 6 spikes

"Rescue" is a great term, considering what happens to Home Depot orchids when they are done flowering.
What happens you ask?
They get repotted into a large steel container with a very course medium consisting of both organic and inorganic components (largely broken pallets and bags of garbage).
Sad but true.
