Yeah, to amend what I'd written before based on knowing more info, I'd have to agree with Camille. I don't think water/misting more than twice a day is probably necessary or ideal. I think I'd look into getting a humidifier if I were you.

Alright then. I don't see a humidifier in my immediate future, but I do have good air movement - my dorm room's kinda smallish, and I have a fan on every day during the day. I'll keep watering on the heavier side, though, just not quite so much.

Thanks again all!

Agree. It IS hard to over-water a properly mounted orchid in a low humidity environment.
If the air movement is good, but the air humidity is low (i.e. in the 20 to 30 % range), the mount will dry out very quickly. Dependent upon the type of orchid mounted, watering (i.e. misting the mount, sparing the leaves or simply soaking the mount) 2 times a day may be all one needs to do to keep them happy. More than that may be too much. Again, as has been said on this board many times, listen to the orchid - it will tell you what it wants - shortly before it dies..........

Update:

Despite my inexperience with this plant and my worries about humidity, it's rewarded me by starting a new leaf! Not a flower yet, but at least I know I'm not quite killing it. Still no active root tips, either - although I do not know how long the grower I purchased it from had it in winter dormancy before I got it. Since we're seeing new foliage, though, I'm optimistic.

Thanks again to all who advised me!
