How much rooting hormone to use?
When I read about people using KLN or Superthrive it's always "a couple of drops per gallon" I have some powder (rootone by schultz). How much do I use in water to promote rootgrowth when it's neccesary? No instructions on package except to dip cuttings in powder.

I've never used the powder on orchids, but with 'normal plants, you dip the the cutting in the powder, and then firmly tap it a few times to remove all the excess powder. Too much powder is bad, it might actually have the opposite effect of what was intended, or so I've heard.
What do you want to use it for on orchids?

I've heard that it's helps promote root growth. For a struggling plant and/or rotten roots.

The powdered hormone concoctions are intended as dry dips for woody plant, and are not water soluble.

Wait, a powder isn't water soluble?

I was told by my local hydroponics store that a rooting "hormone" such as rootone and dip-n-grow is different from products such as KLN and Superthrive and that products like KLN and Superthrive are only root "stimulates." For rooting hormones I was told to use 3 drops per gallon once a month. I just started trying this in January so I am not sure of the results yet, but it was recommended by some growers at my local orchid society. Hope this helps!

I am using the dip-n-grow at 3 drops per gallon once a month. I also use KLN, but recently discovered a product at my local hydroponics store called horgrow something something or something like that that someone else has mentioned here on the OB and I can't find the thread and it is basically the same as KLN if I remember correctly but is a stronger concentration. When I am out of my KLN I plan on switching over to the other stuff.
