request...lost catt
Hi,
I don't know if any of you remember me crying on your shoulder last summer when all of my orchids and the shelf they were on blew over from high winds one night on our open backporch. Most of the plants I lost were broken in one way or another. As you know, this was just another instance of "no more tears left, so might as well laugh". You should have seen my husband and I with flashlights crawling on the backporch floor in our pjs picking up broken, unpotted orchids and PrimeAgra in the dark. lol Quite a sight, I'm sure. Bark (etc.) all over the floor, too. Anyway, I don't mean to bore you with my orchid delimmas.....I have a question, please. Shortly before the accident, I had bought an orchid at Lowes almost in bloom. It was a noid. I thought it was sooo pretty when it bloomed shortly after I brought it home. The blooms never opened all the way, but they probably would have been rather large if they had. I have read your posts about this problem, but that is not what I'm concerned about at this time. Lowes has several new catts, phals and a few other various orchids now. A couple of the catts are in bloom, and they are pretty.....BUT, I would love to have one specific catt which is not that I lost in the accident. My question to you is if you will please look at the photo attached and try to identify the catt., if poss. By the way, the lip is purple, as well. If that is possible, I will go back to Lowes, read the labels of the catts not in bloom, and try to find the same one. They might not have it , but I thought it was worth a shot. What do you think? Bad idea?
I would appreciate your help or a reply as to your opinion.
Vicki

Thank you, Nick. I've got to go run an errand now, but I'd like to do what you suggested as soon as I get back!
Thanks again,
Vicki

Hi Nick,
I just thought I'd let you know what I found at Lowes. I found a Blc Chunyeah 'Tzeng Wen' (bag-baby, though).....but there was no mention on the tag of #17. There were a few labeled Jewel box Scheh erazade and one labeled Blc Mickey's Fredes (Danc. Pink w/stripes xl purple). (I most likely copied the labels all wrong.....but you probably know the orchids). I bought the Blc Chunyeah 'Tzeng Wen", one labeled Blc Williette Wong 'The Best' and Lc Fire Dance Patricia, which was in bloom (orange with purple lip). I thought it was cute, so I attached a pic.
Thanks again for your help,
Vicki

Hi Nick,
I found a pic. of Blc Chunyeah #17 on a site. Cattleya orchid :Blc. Chunyeah No. 17-Large Photo & Picture The only difference between it and the one I had are purple edges on my ex (whatever?! lol) #17 is VERY pretty, though.....just as pretty as mine was!
Yes, I loved the contrasting colors of Lc Fire Dance Patricia. I love orange flowers, too, and the purple lip made the bloom so cute.
Thanks for your reply!

I'd go back and get the Slc. Jewel Box 'Sheherazade'. It's a gorgeous thing. Compact, dark red, and not too floofy. Slc. Jewel Box Scheherazade AM/AOS

Hi Terri,
That's just what I did.....I went back to Lowe's this morn. and bought it (the Slc Jewel Box 'Sheherazade'). I didn't really take a close look at it yesterday - I guess because I had my mind on looking for the label. Anyway, I'm so glad you encouraged me to go back because it is a very pretty orchid indeed. Actually, it only takes a tad of encouragement when it comes to buying orchids! Ok, NO encouragement! Now, the next step is for me to try my best to help it bloom again sometime (I want to be optimistic, but from past experience, it's hard to have much faith in myself. )
I attached a pic of it.....thanks again,
Vicki
Oh, and by the way, I repotted it shortly after I took the pic....as you can see, it was drowning in wet sphag.

I didn't know what happened to you and your orchids last year :-( How sad!
