Unhappy L anceps died, should I replace?

Three years ago I joined AOS and they sent me a Laelia anceps. It never bloomed and each year I had to cut off a part of it due to a fungal (I think) infection. Well today I got tired of cutting off parts and dusting with cinnamon so I tossed it in the trash. Now I am trying to decide if I should buy another one, since I love their blooms, or should I buy something else in the Cattleya alliance. In the summer, my other Cattleya alliance orchids sit out on my deck, and in winter, they sit under a 400 watt HID light. They have all bloomed. Are Laelias hard to grow, or did I just get a bad one?

I find Laelias easy to grow, particularly anceps. They need a cool period in winter. they can take down to almost freezing. They can also take the opposite extreme of hot summers. I would definitely move them outdoors for the summer.

The last few times that I've renewed my AOS membership, I've received a gift certificate redeemable at various orchid retailers. I'm assuming the poster purchased an L. anceps with it. FYI.

I joined 3 years ago, and when I first joined they seny me a free plant. Each year I have renewed my membership I have received the gift certificate. Maybe now that they are short on cash they can't send the free plant.
