I usually use the corner of a paper towel to get water out of the crown, if I happen to get any in there. If I'm in a hurry, I just blow the water out of there. I don't think I would trust the compressed air for my chids!

Me neither I wouldn't use the canned air. Besides, that stuff is expensive so I'll keep it for cleaning the computer. And the air you blow through a straw is free I usually use the corner of a paper towel, it works just fine.

I've always watered in the morning or early enough so any water left on the plant will dry before cooler temps at night. That has worked fine for me.

It was after spraying my phals that I got an attacks of mealies, and I thought that water in the crown was the problem. I've stopped watering them like that and since they have been moved to a very light window, th leaves have become more solid and they look better in gereral. I seem to remember reading here somewhere that a happy plant would get of mealies by itself. Is that so, or did I dream that one up?

Well certainly a healthy plant can stave off a number of things better than a plant in poor condition but even healthy orchids can be attacked by mealies and the like. It's just something that growers have to deal with. I try to examin my plants frequently and get rid of any scale or mealies before they become an infestation problem.
