Unhappy My Beautiful Orchids

Hello everyone,

I have two orchids at home. I am not even going to lie I don't know their names right at this moment. They are not blooming, however one of them is getting a new stem (with no flowers) and it's not growing at all. The same plant is also getting a new leaf, but that one is not growing as well. The other one is just there, green and healthy, but the stem that I cut down is turning brown. I would like for anyone who has any suggestions on how I can help my plant grow, to please feel free to give me some of them.

Since you don't know the names, could you post some pics?

I will try to take some pictures, but I believe they are both moth orchids. Phalaenopsis Brother Redland Spots
(Phalaenopsis Golden Peoker X
Phalaenopsis Brother Fancy)
I think that's what they are. I will take the pics today

What's the weather like where you are just now?

My Phalenopsis are generally not growing (and not for the last couple of months) simply because it is so cold (and we don't keep our house that warn generally).

One of them started growing a leaf before it got so cold and that leaf has stalled. Another started growing a spike which grew so slowly over the last couple of months I could hardly tell it was growing.

As a guess (without seeing any pics and not knowing what it's like where you are) it may be dormant due to the cold.

But if it's warm where you are then ignore that idea.

actually I think you are right. I am so new to the orchid world, but now that you wrote this it makes much more sense to me. The same thing is happening to my plant, the spike sometimes seems like it's making changes, but not really and the leaf it's not growing much. I live in massachussetts and so it is very cold here.

Ah, I was confused by the Dominican Republic flag by your name and thought that was maybe not so cold.

At the moment my house ranges from 60 (or maybe lower) at night, and 66 in the day. At these temperatures my Phals survive but go mostly dormant.

They really like higher temperatures and I know that once it starts to get warmer they will kick into life (well that's what's happened for the last three winters).

I'm sorry for the confusion. I am dominican, that is the reason why I put the flag there.

This is the first time I actually keep my plants alive for this long, so I am looking forward to seen them bloom this year.
