Default Cymbidium Peter Pan

If you live in a warm climate and have trouble flowering Cymbidiums you should try this one. The color is not going to jump out at you but nice in it's own way. It is considered a miniature but can get pretty large. Grow it with your Cattleyas and it will bloom every year for you in late winter.

Remember you are in Blackpool, unlike nenella who is in south west coastal France, your Cymbidium would need to be frost free in the winter - I keep mine in a cool bedroom. I'd hate to see you invest in a plant and then lose it in weather like we have now They do benefit from being outside in the summer, and cool nights in autumn help flowers develop.

Happy growing

Very nice cym, the color is so so nice!

It's possible to grow cyms indoors, as long as you have a way of putting them outside in the warmer months so that they get the day/night temperature difference they need. Mine, in France, lives behind a south facing window part of the year, and then from May to September it is outside in the sun.

I'm in NW France, and I put cyms outside in the summer and a vanda aswell. The cyms have no spikes this year, but I think I'm lucky to have kept them this far, and the vanda is growing a very healthy new shoot. Perhps it'll grow into a flower... please?

I don't know about the Vanda, Kath, but I kept my Cym in a cool greenhouse until the spike formed, and watered and fed it a bit less too. Then it came into a bay window where the curtains were drawn in front of it while we enjoyed the flowers in the day.

"On a hot day in summer would most phals, dendros etc like a bit of fresh air? " I don't know enough to answer that properly, but I think you would have to put them out into a shaded area as going from filtered light (through double glazing which cuts quite a lot of UV) to overhead sun would be a shock which may well burn them, plus drop in humidity if it was windy might scorch, too. Experiment if we ever get a hot summer day again
