Hi my Dendrobium orchid's buds drop before blooming.
The plant is well hydrated, but the buds turn yellow in colour and the buds drop.
Let me give u a brief background
I am in India, it is Spring time now but the temperature is about 4degree C higher.
The plants get the afternoon sun.
Now I have blocked the sun after the bud dropped and put a wet cloth to keep the area cool.
will it help?
please advise.
Hello. I had the same thing happen to one of my phalanopsis type dendrobium orchids. The general consensus was a probable drastic change in temperature or exposure. Hopefully someone else will add to this. I consider myself a pretty good keeper of orchids but am in no way an expert. Good Luck.
Guess you are correct, this time in India where I live we are experiencing an early and warmer spring.
what do u suggest, will it help to move them to a cooler place?
I have moved them to a humidity tray to keep them cooler.
Hopefully someone else will add to this. If the buds have dropped there is nothing you can do about it but wait for the plant to go through its normal cycle. I guess I would water it as you usually do and keep it from getting any direct sun. In time it will put out new buds.
