vanilla scented
I was at Silva's with my wife over the weekend. As soon as she walked into one of their greenhouses, she smelled a vanilla scent that she liked. When we asked which orchid it was, the only one they could figure was Oncidium Twinkle. We like Oncidiums but weren't crazy about the color.
Does anybody know which other orchids have a vanilla scent? I would like to get one for my wife.
Thanks.

I recently added this one to my collection and the back porch reeks of vanilla every morning. I can't think of any others off the top of my head with a vanilla scent as strong, but I am sure you'll get a few suggestions.
You mentioned you liked the scent but not necessarily the color—I assume you saw the more standard light pink variety? I don't know if the people at Silva's told you but there are also a red and a yellow variety called 'Red Fantasy' and 'Golden Fantasy', respectively. Maybe your wife would like one of these better.

Try an Onc Sharry Baby, it smells like a combination of vanilla and chocolate. The flowers are small and plenty, mine (RIP) came with 75 blooms on one spike.

I agree, that one will knock you down with their scent.
Others are Neofinetia falcata (but I doubt that you will like the color), Encyclia fragrans (similarly), Encylia lancifolia, Maxillaria tenuifolia (like coconut and vanilla), Oncidium lanceanum... as far as what I've heard.

Red Fantasy, Sharry Baby and Lanceanum all sound like great ideas.
Thanks everyone. Now to find sources.

I also came across this, you should take a look!

It says that Cattleya Walkeriana also has vanilla fragrance. As well as Encylia cordigera, the hybrid Bld. Formosan Gold, Blc. Hawaiian Avalanche,...
Personally, I've seen Sharry Baby and Twinkle in person, and I have to say that Oncidium Sharry Baby is an awesome plant and is really popular. you 'll love that plant.

Neofinetia Falcata has a scent that's like vanilla, and there's a lot of variations, too, so take your pick.
