Default Orchids in Zambia

We have booked a trip to a remote area in Zambia's Luangwa Valley in September of 2010. It's just north of South Luangwa National Park concession number 101 (Nyampala) on this map.

MAP

Does anyone have any information on what Orchids might be local to the area?

Go to a local library - preferably a University Library - and try to get an interlibrary loan of volume 11, part 1, of the Flora Zambesiaca (1995). That is the Orchidaceae. You can sit down and try and derive a list of what you might see. Included are the flowering times when known.

Hope that helps, Eric

Thanks Eric,

I'll give that a try. I tried the good old Google search and only came up with bad news in that it seems the Orchids in both Zambia and Tanzania are under great human pressure as a food source.

I just saw this - did you see any orchids?? I believe many angraecoid and bulbophyllum species grow in Zambia.
