How did i kill a few orchids?

I let my wife water them (Or should i say, overwater them) they were only Den. seedlings though, so no problems.

It was no problem really.... She just got a little overexcited. We only lost about 50 one inch plants..... Cost us less than $1 US

How do you think you killed your Orchid Male
Default Since I have been growing orchids

I have developed many different methods of orchid torture. Some have killed them, some have not. But it was not because of lack of effort on my part.

Oncs don't like me, so matter what I do. I can pamper them, neglect them, abuse them, beg them.... but in the end they always commit suicide.

Right now I have one a death's door. My sedirea japonica minmaru project plant started to recover from mealies, then got more,a nd it's been downhill since then. I don't think it has much time left in this world.

I have killed 4/5 Phals from overwatering when I first started growing orchids .. and also lost a violacea last year when I went on holiday and it was over watered by my 'chid minder. & got crown rot..(luckily I had 2 so I still have one that flowered last summer & whose still growing strong.) I've now become good at 'hospitalizing' them in Bag & Sphag.
It took me a while to figure out the 'right way' for my conditions.... (I pot them in loose sphag and then put in a bag)
The 'hardest' for me are Cattleyas (noids) as my only species one has never let me down and flowers every year (3 yrs for now)... the noids are 'surviving'

Who hasn't killed a chid!

I don't have nearly enough chids yet, so my casualties are limited. I lost 2.5 chids soon after I bought them, but I think it's safe to say they were on their way out before I even touched them. And they were all so beautiful too! One was a dwarf phal noid with peach colored flowers spotted red, the other was a Cattleya, but I think the picture the vendor had was actually of a Zygopetalum. I managed to salvage part of the third (thus the ".5"), a Slc. Jewelbox 'Darkwaters'. It's growing well, but I may have set it's roots back a little last time I repotted. Still, I may be able to hope for blooms in a year or so.

Then I've got my various "survivors" which I'm still learning to care for. Ok, enough out of me.

That stinks BodaciousBonsai!! I ordered some chids through the mail and the mailman put them in the billbox, I didn't know until we checked the mail at 6pm that they came in. They seem to be doing okay, though. If they die it will be from me killing them! I'm not ordering anymore orchids till it warms up, though!

How did I kill an orchid? Well, I thought it would be a good idea to water a Phal and let some water get in the crown! I now know this is a VERY BAD idea!! At least I have a keiki for all my bad ideas! Another Phal has a lot of root damage, this was before I perfected my potting skills! I pretty much damaged all the roots, but a few! This one is struggling as I type this. I'm sure I will torture some of the others! Phals, don't seem to like to be at my house, so I may have to give up on buying them. Besides, I'm thinking of focusing all of my income, okay after bills, on Paphs. Dens don't like me either! I'm thinking of going with Sue on they commit suicide!

OOOOO OOOOOO a question!! Would growing these sick Dens and Phals bare root, help to initiate root growth?? Just a thought.

The latest victim was a small keiki that fell backward off the rack and was ignored . When I first started growing not a lot of info. available no one had a computer and the books at the library were antiques , book said Catts. liked sun but don't think they meant rootless divisions also from the old stand by over watering .
