Default T5 light system

Have questions on T5 lighting systems. If I buy a 4 ft 4 bulb T5 light system which figures out to be around 1870 fc is this strong enough to grow Castts, Vandas and Dendreiums. Or should I buy a 4 ft 6 bulb system.

Thanks

With good reflectors, suitable tubes and at short enough distance, I would say yes! 4 should be enough.

I switched to a 4-bulb, 4-foot T5 setup last year, and I've been growing and blooming mini Catts, species Catts, Encyclias, and a couple of small Dendros with no problem. The Catts are kept 6-8" from the tubes.

Hope that helps!

I would be concerned about enough lighting for some Vanda's using T5's. But I grow many catts and dendrobiums under T5's.

I agree with Becca, I think growing Vandas under lights will be sketchy. That's not to say it's not possible.
